Same-Clothes Couple Wears Matching Outfits For 35 Years

Here's a hard and fast fashion rule: a couple should not wear matching outfits.

It doesn't matter what a great deal you got on winter coats at that two-for-one sale, or how much you both like that style of plaid. Don't do it. Don't match.

Like all rules, though, this one was made to be broken. And Donald Featherstone and his wife Nancy have spent the last 35 years doing just that.

From the early days of their marriage, they enjoyed wearing the same patterns and colours, with Nancy sewing most of the outfits herself.

Over the years, she's become more and more skilled, leading to increasingly elaborate get ups.

Even when Donald's away on business, they coordinate their wardrobes ahead of time so they'll feel connected to one another.

One of their favourite sartorial choices is flamingo fabric - they've got a wardrobe with 40 pieces featuring with flamingo patterns.

It's an appropriate choice: Donald invented the pink lawn flamingo. For real.

These awesome photographs, which Nancy and Donald shared with The Sun, prove that if you really commit to something - even something like this - you can make it work (sort of).

They're not the only couple who've found longevity in marriage by dressing similarly.

Last year, TIME reported on Mel and Joey Schwanke, a couple who've been together for 65 years and own 146 custom-made matching outfits.

Maybe they're onto something.
