This week George boldly went where no one has gone before... the furthest reaches of space!
Just kidding. But he did interview LeVar Burton, who played Geordi La Forge from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Burton's wide-ranging conversation with George touched on instilling the love of learning in children, the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, the legacy of Roots — and Reading Rainbow's new app for kids.
Burton wasn't the only fascinating guest, though. Two Canadian Olympic stars — Donovan Bailey and Silken Laumann — were here to talk about activities more literary than athletic. Bailey talked about his participation in Canada Reads 2014, and Laumann about her new book Unsinkable. And they both offered their reflections on representing Canada to the world and their time in the spotlight.
Another pair of sometime authors, Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish and Raffi, also made appearances. Abuelaish's book I Shall Not Hate: A Gaza Doctor's Journey explores loss and transformation after three of his daughters were killed by tank fire, and children's entertainer Raffi spoke about the changing world that today's children are inheriting (his book and campaign Lightweb Darkweb aims to protect children online).
On top of all this, Recipe To Riches judge Vikram Vij came by to help explain how food and music can make the world a better place and Gerry Dee, the main man behind Mr. D, faced off against George in a series of challenges.
