November 22, 2011

Tens of thousands of people have gathered in Tahrir Square in Egypt today to demand an end to military rule in the country. Clashes between protestors and riot police have led to the deaths of at least 29 people so far. Egypt's ruling council has pledged to transfer power to a civilian government by July of next year, but it is unclear whether their announcement will help calm the situation.

Reuters photographer Amr Abdallah Dalsh is in Egypt, and he captured this stunning image of a protestor throwing a tear gas canister, which was earlier thrown by riot police during clashes along a road which leads to the Interior Ministry, near Tahrir Square in Cairo (click for full size).
