Is “Milking” The Newest, Bizarre, Random Web Craze? You Just Open A Bottle Of Milk And Pour It Over

One thing about viral videos, you just never know what's going to take off. Sometimes, it can be the most random, ridiculous thing.

We've already seen planking, Batmanning, and owling. Well now, a new bizarre trend seems to be emerging.

It's called 'milking'.

And no, there are no cows involved. It's just people opening a bottle of milk and pouring it over their heads in a public place.

Check out the video at the top of the page, to see what we mean.

Last week, a number of students in the U.K. travelled to London to protest against being "milked" by the government over university tuition fees and high student debt.

Since then, students have started "milking" in public spaces.

Apparently, it started in Newcastle, England where students have been filmed "milking" in stations, shopping malls, hotels, outside pubs, in a tree, the middle of the road and in roundabouts.

According to the student paper 'The Tab Newcastle', it's also taken off in Edinburgh, Oxford, Nottingham and Cirencester.

"We were just in our kitchen talking about doing it outside Starbucks in Jesmond and thought it would be really funny, student Tom Morris told The Daily Mail.

"We did that, uploaded the video to Facebook and got a load of likes. So then we thought "why not just make a video?"

Another "milker" George Hoyland said "We didn't expect a reaction this large, the video was initially intended for our friends."

Hoyland said at least two videos have been made, including one at Oxford University.

The original video already has tens of thousands of hits and plenty of comments.

One YouTube user wrote "All cities should be milked, we should start a revolution."

Another said: "Holy cow man! Dairy good video. Just semi-skimming youtube when I found this."

Others weren't so kind, with woman sarcastically writing 'The inventive, future Leaders of our country !'

Even a local councilor tweeted "Not sure Jesmond students are helping their public image with £milking stunt."

Of course, as we mentioned, this isn't the first odd web craze.

With planking, people would lie face down in unlikely places and post the photo on Tumblr.

Batmanning took things to another level - instead of lying face down, people hung upside down.

And with owling - people decided to squat instead of lying down.
