September 26, 2011
submit to reddit

Olivia Chow, NDP MP and wife of the late NDP leader, Jack Layton, talks about the importance of making public transit better for Canadians. She points out that cities need support from the federal government and so she will table a bill in the House of Commons that will provide a national vision for a critical local issue.

In this clip, Olivia talks about

The importance of transit leadership
"We have the Canadian Federation of Municipalities, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Urban Transit Association -- you name it -- all the mayors in big cities are saying 'we need leadership on the federal level' which is why this Friday I'm introducing the federal National Transit Strategy. We're the only OECD country that has no such strategy."
