Michael Sam’s School Gives Him A Standing Ovation At A Home Basketball Game

On Saturday, Michael Sam, the defensive lineman who made headlines for coming out as gay before the NFL draft, returned to the University of Missouri to accept the 2014 Cotton Bowl Championship Trophy at half-time during a Missouri vs. Tennessee basketball game. As you can see in the video above, the crowd was pretty excited to see him.

Meanwhile, outside the stadium, members of the Westboro Baptist Church showed up to protest — but they were blocked by a contingent of Missouri fans who'd come out to support Sam:
