Joel Bakan On Kids’ Online Habits
September 29, 2011
submit to reddit

Joel Bakan describes how his 11-year-old son's online habits led him to author 'Childhood Under Siege'.

Professor and legal theorist describes the sobering moment he asked his 11-year-old son what he and his friends were doing online.

In this clip, Joel talks about

The gruesomeness of the game:
"You're supposed to manipulate your mouse and get the woman to kill the man or the man to kill the woman in these increasingly violent ways. And so one of them the women elbows the man in the back of the head and he falls to the ground and blood is gushing all over and then she squats over him and defecates on him."

What's wrong with this picture?
"I'm not necessarily saying that you know government should step in and restrict that, but this isn't being delivered by some shady internet operator. This is Nickelodeon."
