In spite of what you may have thought in high school, a working knowledge of chemistry can be extremely useful. Chemistry Life Hacks is a video series put out by the American Chemical Association that attempts to solve household problems through science. The series is described as "MacGyver meets Mendeleev" —  after the action hero and the periodic table inventor, respectively — and in the first installment, they take on such pesky problems as overly bitter coffee, unripe bananas and a dirty cast iron pan. Not only is it useful advice — you get to bone up on your high school chemistry while you're at it, too.
