As New Snoop Doc Hits Theatres, George Finds Out Why He’s ‘Reincarnated’ As Snoop Lion

A while back, Snoop Dogg went to Jamaica to record an album with producer Diplo. A film crew from VICE Magazine tagged along.

But things didn't go exactly as planned. While he was there, Snoop got into Rastafarian culture. He changed his name to Snoop Lion and decided to record an entire reggae album with no rapping on it.

The film crew turned the footage they got into a documentary about Snoop's journey called 'Reincarnated'. Here's the trailer:

The doc played at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, and now it's making its way to select Canadian theatres.

While Snoop was here promoting the film at TIFF, he participated in a press conference, moderated by none other than George.

You can check out the entire conversation at the top of the post - it gets going at about the 1:00 mark.

There's some great stuff about Snoop's experience with Rastafarianism, Barack Obama, his grief over the death of Nate Dogg, his life-long love of reggae, and his approach to language in his new music.

And if you'd like to hear what Snoop Lion actually sounds like, you won't have to wait long: 'Reincarnated' the album hits stores April 23. For a preview, you can check out the video for first single 'La La La'.

If you're in Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal and you'd like to check out the doc, here are the dates and times it's playing:

Vancouver: The Rio Theatre
Wednesday, March 20 - 7:00pm

Toronto: The Bloor Hot Docs Cinema
Wednesday, March 20 - 9:30pm
Thursday, March 21 - 6:30pm

Montreal: Phi Centre
