The 2014 Paralympic Winter Games kick off this week, and over the past few days, the 54 members of Team Canada have been making their way to Sochi to get ready to compete. In the gallery above, we've collected some shots of various athletes on their way to the Games.
Of course, their arrival takes place amidst international outcry over Russia's involvement in the ongoing situation in Ukraine (Sochi is less than 500 kilometres away from Crimea). In response to Russia's actions, Canada has withdrawn official government representation at the Games, and the U.S. and the UK have made similar moves.
Still, the Games themselves are going ahead as planned, and a spokesperson for the Canadian Paralympic Committee told CP that the goal remains the same as ever: top three in the gold medal count.
The Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games will be broadcast on CBC TV on Friday, March 7 at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT and CBC will broadcast 30 hours of coverage throughout the Games. There will also be more than 250 hours of Paralympic video online at cbc.ca/paralympics.
