Today, March 8, is International Women's Day. It's a day to celebrate the contributions of women and girls to our lives and communities — and to highlight the issues facing women and girls around the world.

We've rounded up a great list of reads, videos and more that spotlight women's issues in different ways. Hundreds of events are taking place across the country; you can see a full list of those on the International Women's Day website.

Of course, one day out of the year isn't enough to adequately address all of the issues faced by 50 per cent of the world's population. Fortunately, there are some truly excellent Canadian organizations spearheading projects, both in this country and abroad, fighting for the safety, agency, freedom and equality of women, all year long. In the gallery above, we've rounded up five of them.
