Canada Day Is Taking Over New York City And London, England - And George Is Hosting

Canadians already know how awesome this land and its people are. What better time than the country's 146th birthday to spread the word around the world?

To that end, George will be hosting two celebrations of Canuck culture on and around Canada Day.

First up: the inaugural edition of Canada Day New York, organized by Canada Day International, is going down Saturday, June 29.

The day-long event is happening in Central Park, with George MC'ing the whole thing.

Festivities kick off with a street hockey tournament (of course) at the Naumberg Bandshell, in association with Fivehole for Food.

There will also be photo ops with members of the RCMP, a food festival featuring the Great Canadian Picnic, and cooking demonstrations with Canadian chefs.

Then, the big music show begins, with some serious Canadian talent - namely Spirit of the West, Joel Plaskett and LIGHTS - taking over the main stage at Rumsey Playfield for a free concert.

On July 1st, George will be in England along with CBC News Network host Heather Hiscox, to head up the 8th annual Canada Day London celebration in Trafalgar Square.

Once again, road hockey is on the agenda, with the James R. Wright road hockey tournament, featuring eight teams competing for the Trafalgar Cup.

The RCMP will be on hand, there will be face painting for the kids (because everyone could use a maple leaf on their cheek), and people can practice some yoga, with classes hosted by Canadian company Lululemon.

And Canadian food is getting a big push in the run-up to the big day, with a six-week program of venue takeovers, competitions, and a pop-up restaurant in Trafalgar Square.

There will also be musical performances from an awesome list of Canadians: The Tragically Hip, The Sheepdogs, Jann Arden and Arkells are all playing, and First Nations Pow-Wow and Round Dance singing group Northern Cree will also take the stage.

If you're going to be in New York or London, make sure to stop by and see George and all the performers.

And if you're spending Canada Day at home or the cottage, you can follow along from there. Just visit the Canada Day International website, or check out the Canada Day London Facebook and Twitter accounts, and the Canada Day NYC Facebook and Twitter pages.

Wherever you are, you can join the conversation by Tweeting with the hashtags #CanadaDayNYC and #CanadaDayLondon.
