Belgium Celebrates No Government
February 18, 2011

Here's an update on a story we talked about on the show recently. Belgium has just set the record for the country that's gone the longest without a government. 249 days, passing the old mark set by Iraq.

But instead of being angry, many people are using this as an opportunity to have some fun and make light of it all. One Belgian newspaper had the headline "Finally world champion." There are parties in the streets with free French fries. And in the city of Gent, 249 people (one for each day of the record) took part in a mass striptease.

After all the protests in the Middle East and north Africa to try to get rid of oppressive governments, it's kind of bizarre to see people celebrating not having a democratic one. But hey, that's Belgium for you.
