AWESOME THING OF THE DAY: JR’s Pervasive Street Art

The French street artist JR has caught the attention of the world over the last few years - and he's done it by making the whole world into "his art gallery". Calling himself a "photograffeur", the artist (who is known only by his initials) combines the art of large-scale photography with the public spaces favoured by graffiti artists.

Now he has two gallery shows coming up - the first one opens at Paris's Galerie Perrotin this Saturday, November 19th, and runs until January 7th, 2012. The second starts later this month, on Tuesday November 29th, at another Galerie Perrotin in The M Building in Miami, Florida.

In the past, JR has gotten serious acclaim for his work, winning the 2011 TED Prize for his work. He refers to his work as "Pervasive Art" that "spreads uninvited on the buildings of the slums around Paris, on the walls in the Middle-East, on the broken bridges in Africa or the favelas in Brazil".
