Battle For Wisconsin
March 1, 2011
submit to reddit

By now, you've probably seen the battle unfolding in Wisconsin between Governor Scott Walker and public sector workers... After two weeks of massive protests, Walker is set to unveil his full budget plan today.

It's expected to include deep cuts for schools and local governments of up to $ 1 billion. The state of Wisconsin is $ 3.6 billion in the hole. As part of his plan to turn things around, Walker wants to take away most collective bargaining rights from public workers.

That has made him popular in the Republican party, but new polls suggest most Americans are against his ideas. A Pew Research Center poll found 42 per cent of Americans side with the unions, 31 per cent side with Walker. A New York Times-CBS poll found 60 per cent back the unions, 33 per cent support Walker.

We found a couple of videos that are inspired by the protests. One of them was put together by a 23 year old student at the University of Wisconsin named Matt Wisnieki, who filmed the protests and set it to Arcade Fire's 'Rebellion (Lies).'

The other one is by a hip hop artist Jasiri X. It was shot in Madison, Wisconsin as 70,000 people protested at the State Capitol building.
