THIS WEEK: 6 Best Music Videos

Maybe it's because of the Academy Awards, but this week's music videos feature some Hollywood influences - Islands got their Tim Burton on with some 'Nightmare Before Christmas'-style skeletons, The Shins produced a Wes Anderson-esque clip, and Beirut put together a 1940s homage.

Meanwhile, Toronto's Crystal Castles kept it simple with a whole vid focused on lead singer Alice Glass, while Mint Julep pushed the boundaries of music video technology with a glasses-free 3D effect, created in collaboration with Berlin-based directors Vivien Weyrauch and Fabian Röttger. And finally, Chicago's lo-fi singer/songwriter Willis Earl Beal illustrated his own video in a style that mirrors the spare aesthetic of his music.

For more great tunes, make sure to listen to the Strombo Show on CBC Radio 2 on Sunday night at 8.

Beirut "Vagabond"

Crystal Castles "Suffocation"

Islands "Hallways"

Mint Julep "To The Sea"

The Shins "Simple Song"
