If you're planning a trip to Australia, Helene Joy has two hard and fast rules for you:
1) Never mention the term "fanny pack." It means something very, very different there.
2) Don't wear a fanny pack. Actually, that one applies wherever you go.
Helene is currently starring in the stage production of 'Speaking in Tongues' - a play by Andrew Bovell, a fellow Australian. Performances are at the Berkeley Street Theatre in Toronto until November 24. Visit the Canadian Stage site for info and tickets.
The play is a Company Theatre Production, and another member of that troupe is Allan Hawco. He was on the show last season, and he also offered some helpful tips on how to use local slang, this time if you're headed to Newfoundland.
Helene is also a screen actor. You might know her best for her role as Dr. Julia Ogden on CBC's 'Murdoch Mysteries.' You can catch the show at 9 pm Monday nights on CBC TV.
