In the nine years he spent working as a Mountie, Jim Treliving became an expert at assessing strangers and learning to trust his gut. It's a skill that's paid off for Jim, who's managed to build a billion-dollar empire as co-owner of Boston Pizza.
For Jim -- who grew up in the financial hotbed of Virden, Manitoba -- the road to the top started when he packed in that Mountie job to open a Boston Pizza in Penticton, B.C. He came close to financial ruin but the risk paid off. And now, Boston Pizza has more than 350 locations.
These days, Jim's all about passing on what he's learned in business. He dishes out advice each week on 'Dragons' Den' and on 'The Big Decision' with his fellow Dragon, Arlene Dickinson.
He also has a new book called 'Decision: Making the Right Ones, Righting the Wrong Ones.'
