The Bio

Back in 1983, Dave Mustaine was fired by his former band, Metallica, for bad behaviour. If Dave were a different type of guy, that could have been the end of his story. Instead, he put the frustration he felt into what he called 'the perfect beast' - a band he wanted to be faster and more lethal than Metallica: Megadeth.

Megadeth were like speed-metal thunder, seething with political commentary. But Dave, the son of an alcoholic, bottomed out a few times. In time, the parties, drugs, and heavy drinking took their toll, as have the neck and spine injuries he's suffered as a result of decades of full-on head-banging.

But in 2003, Dave faced the toughest challenge of his life when an injury to his arm threatened to end his career. He says the experience brought him closer to God, and the boy who was raised a Jehovah's Witness, who dabbled in witchcraft, and who started one of the greatest metal bands of all time, became a born-again Christian.

Dave says, he's learned from his faith, and made peace with his past - good thing, because he's back with a new Megadeth album: 'Thirteen,' the thirteenth of the band's career.
