India is home to the world's biggest film industry - and one of its greatest stars is Anil Kapoor. He's been in about 150 Indian films. But chances are you know him from 'Slumdog Millionaire'. It took the plight of India's street kids to the world. And its rags-to-riches story is not that different from Anil's.

Raised in the suburbs of Mumbai, Anil shared a single room with his entire family, and a bathroom with a dozen others. But as poor as he was, he still got to see movies, and grew up idolizing Charlie Chaplin. At 12 years old, he ran away from home to audition for a film. He got the part, a small role that eventually led to bigger parts. And before you know it, Anil was one of Bollywood's top leading men.

Then along came 'Slumdog.' The film won eight Academy Awards and put Anil on Hollywood's radar. Last year, he played the president of a fictitious Islamic country on '24.' And he's in the upcoming 'Mission: Impossible' movie, with Tom Cruise. Plus, he's a successful producer of Hindi films and champions Indian cinema worldwide. And as a goodwill ambassador for Plan India he works to prevent the exploitation and abuse of street kids.

At the moment, Anil is preparing for the role of a so-called "encounter" cop in Sanjay Gupta's "Shootout at Wadala."
