Ali Velshi might not look at it this way, but the collapse of the US economy was a great thing for his career. Let's face it - over the past year, Ali has become a 'go to' guy on CNN as their chief business correspondent. So, how'd he get there?
Well, he was born in Kenya, raised in Toronto, and his dad was the first Indian-Canadian elected to Ontario's legislature. Ali did a stint in politics too, when he was awarded a fellowship to the US Congress.
But television was Ali's thing. He came home to Toronto, started in local TV, got a national gig on ROB TV - now BNN. Then, it was off to New York and CNN - the same week 9/11 happened. Since then, Ali has covered a couple of hurricanes - including Katrina, as well as the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan.
Plus, he hosts the show 'Your Money.' Oh and Jon Stewart calls him 'H-Pod' - 'The Hairless Prophet Of Doom.' Ali also has a book out - it's called 'Gimme My Money Back: Your Guide to Beating the Financial Crisis.'
