Farewell To Punk Goddess Poly Styrene

Poly Styrene kicked down some serious doors trying to make it as a female punk artist in the '70s. And man, did she make it.

After seeing her first Sex Pistols show as a teen, she burst onto the scene with her band X-Ray Spex in '76, went on to a solo career and explored life with the Hare Krishna.

Her music challenged gender roles and social norms, and it earned big respect from the likes of Billy Bragg and former Sex Pistols member Glen Matlock.

Poly's crazy, wonderful adventures were halted earlier this year when she was stricken with breast and spinal cancer. She was 53 when she died.
