Toronto Councillor Tells Margaret Atwood To Pipe Down

After Toronto city councillor Doug Ford incorrectly stated that his ward had more libraries than Tim Horton's outlets, and that he would close one of those libraries in a "heartbeat", Canadian literary icon Margaret Atwood criticized him via Twitter.

Toronto councillor Doug Ford (the brother of mayor Rob Ford) responded by saying he doesn't even know who Atwood is, and wouldn't recognize her if she walked by him. Doug Ford went on to say she should get herself elected or keep quiet.

Atwood, an activist on literary and human rights causes, and her followers made their point though. They inspired so many online petition signatures in support of libraries that they crashed the petition site's server.
