May Two-Four came and went, setting us up for summer blockbusters and some other goodies. Here's what we just might watch this weekend...
Rocksteady
Okay, we loved this doc about the roots of reggae, but in 2009, it was only in a few theatres. Only now is it getting a DVD release. Find it if you love reggae and want to know what came before. What do we love about 'Rocksteady'? Just listen to Dawn Penn's classic, "You Don't Love Me" (No, No, No) and you'll know. She's in the movie, along with other 'Rocksteady' stars, who get together for a reunion concert. This is a great music history film.
Bobby Fischer Against the World
A rock star in the chess world? That was Bobby Fischer, the youngest Grandmaster and Candidate for the World Championship in the 1960's. In 1972, he embodied American hopes for Cold War dominance when he beat defending World Chess Champion, Boris Spassky. But fame brought stress, notoriety, and even an indictment by the US government. Bobby's story is so interesting, we kind of can't believe we're looking forward to a movie about chess.
The Collapsed
We like horror movies. We like Canadian movies. And we get a kick out of Canadian movies on budgets so low, we have to imagine the monsters. 'The Collapsed' may be one such post-apocalyptic treat. We hope. Watch the trailer here.
The Hangover Part II
Though we're still recovering from 'The Hangover', we're ready for the second epic night out. Yup, the boys are back, and they're drunker than ever, on set and off. Bradley Cooper came by this week and told us of his hungover audition. And when Zach Galifianakis was here, he talked about being 'the fat guy from 'The Hangover''. Can 'The Hangover Part II' possibly top hijinx from the first one?
Trailer of the Week
Speaking of hijinx, the freakin' Muppets will be back this Fall! They'll be joined by Amy Adams and the hilarious Jason Segel (who came to visit us for the release of 'I Love You, Man'. Watch the interview here). We even hear 'The Hangover' stars Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms will make Muppet cameos. This trailer is so great, when we first saw it, we were like, "What a cheeseball movie. Who would ever watch this?" Then we saw Kermit and all was good. We are indeed ready for Muppet Domination.
