Canadian artist Guy Laramee has a thing for books - but he doesn't just read them. He turns them into detailed, amazing artwork. A couple of his recent projects involve intricate, natural-looking landscapes that are carved between the covers.

'Guan Yin' is a series of pieces he created following his mother's death in 2011. He says it was inspired both by being with his mother at the last moment of her life, and the tragedy of Japan's tsunami, which hit at around the same time. The works below are created out of nothing but carved books and ink. Check them out:

Another project is called 'El amor por las montanas', which is based on something Guy's Mexican artist friend once said to him. He translates it as "our love for mountains will heal us". And he decided to explore the idea, once again, by modifying books:
