VIDEO OF THE DAY: How To Pronounce "Uranus". WITHOUT Laughing.

If you attended elementary school, chances are you've spent some time giggling at the name of the seventh planet from the sun. As maker of explanatory YouTube videos C.G.P. Grey points out in this new vid, the name "Uranus" is hard not to laugh at, given its similarity to a certain human body part.

Grey says he started thinking seriously about the pronunciation problem when he was working on another video about our solar system, and found himself rewriting the script so that he wouldn't have to actually say Uranus. This video offers some interesting background information on how the planet was first discovered, where the name came from (blame two German scientists), and the original Greek pronunciation (oo-RON-ohs) that may be the only solution to Uranus being the butt of cheap jokes.
