If you ever asked someone to prom, or had someone ask you, you might remember sweaty palms, awkwardly downcast eyes, and maybe being backed into a private corner of the school somewhere (a good place to be, if the answer is no).

Well, it seems technology has changed the way some people go about popping the "will you go to prom with me?" question.

Like Thao Le, who took the opportunity while he was in our audience to hop into the red chair and ask a girl to be his date for the big night.

Thao came to a taping with friends, and decided the moment was right to get George involved in his "promposal."

He told Strombo.com "the idea was planned a bit ahead," but "nothing was scripted at all."

Our cameras rolled, and - even though he was "unbelievably nervous" and "didn't know how to fully answer some of the questions" - he did a short interview with George, and then ask Trina, his dream prom date, if she'd be willing to go.

He even convinced Mr. Forte, one of Trina's teachers, to play the video in class - no small feat considering he doesn't actually go to the same school. In fact, he lives two hours away.

As you can see in the lower left-hand corner, Trina was impressed and said yes. Trina's prom went down May 10, and Thao told Strombo.com it was "an amazing experience, probably the best in my life."

After the party, a group of students went to Niagara Falls, where Thao made one more proposal to Trina: he asked her to be his girlfriend. She said yes to that one, too.

The "promposal" has become a thing of late, with people going to elaborate lengths to lock down a date, often filming it and posting it online.

According to YouTube spokesperson Kate Mason, "It's a fascinating trend. Over the last couple of years, it has become more and more elaborate."

To date, she says about 150,000 prom proposal videos have been uploaded and some have become quite popular.

Bobby Chin from Maryland, serenaded his girlfriend Sofia with a version of Jason Mraz's 'I'm Yours'. He won a date to prom - and 1.8 million views and counting. Check that out above.

There's also this L.A. teen named Senn who asked Emily to the prom... wearing a pair of gold booty shorts and shaking what his momma gave him.
