As far as we know, no one can actually see the future. But filmmakers definitely spend a lot of time trying - science fiction movies have projected a huge number of possible futures, from the next few years all the way to the very distant (and hilarious) reality of Red Dwarf, which takes place in the year 30001988.

This new infographic from Tremulant Design traces out some of the possible future scenarios we might face based on a wide range of film and television storylines. Explore what might be next below (click for full-sized version):

Two general themes run through many of these films: one, the future is a dark, dark place. And two, there are lots of shenanigans to come, whether they're of the "Bill and Ted play chess with Death" variety, or in the slightly more serious "Sigourney Weaver is a half-alien clone who's great at basketball" mold.
