To Serve & Protect - President Barack Obama has appointed the first woman to lead the U.S. Secret Service in its 148 year history.

5-cool-things-you-can-tell-your-friends-about-today-feature2.jpg Julia Pierson, a secret service veteran of 30 years, is now officially responsible for the safety of Obama and his family, the vice-president, other leading Washington figures and visiting international dignitaries.

As the Guardian writes, "by appointing a woman, the White House sends a message that a macho culture will not be tolerated." Read the full story here.

15 lb Bundle Of Joy - This little big guy is George King, born six weeks ago to his parents Jade and Ryan in Britain.

At 15 pounds, he was born twice the size of an average baby. His mom says he didn't fit into any of his new-born clothes; he went right to the 6 month stuff.

5-cool-things-you-can-tell-your-friends-about-today-feature4.jpgDoctors didn't know he'd be so big, so it wasn't an easy delivery and George went without oxygen for five minutes.

He was given a 10% chance of survival, but was released from hospital after 4 ½ weeks of medical care. Here's the story from the BBC.

Basquiat Unseen Works - The late Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of America's most celebrated artists - having worked with the legendary Andy Warhol among others.

Basquiat died of a heroin overdose in 1988 at the age of 27. But now, his ex-girlfriend Alexis Adler has revealed she has a number of his unseen works.

5-cool-things-you-can-tell-your-friends-about-today-feature6.jpgThey're from their old apartment, where Basquiat would paint on the walls, doors, the refrigerator - anywhere he could find.

Adler bought the place, but never painted over his work. Plus, she hung onto many of his drawings, photographs, postcards, notebooks, and painted clothes.

Kosher Cigarettes - Just in time for the week-long Passover holiday, Israel now has cigarettes that have been approved by a rabbi.

In other words, kosher - meaning they haven't come in contact with grains or other forbidden ingredients.

5-cool-things-you-can-tell-your-friends-about-today-feature5.jpg The Beit Yosef private rabbinic group gave the smokes its blessing for Passover. But the chief rabbinate in Israel isn't happy about it.

"Poison is not kosher. For all days of the year, not just Passover," his spokesperson said. Check out the story on TIME's website.

Parallel Parking Record - John and Alistair Moffatt of Britain have just broken the world record for parallel parking.

John did it first, accelerating toward the space between two parked cars and spinning sideways into the spot. Alistair did it right after that.

How tight was it? Try 13.1 centimetres between cars, which beat the old record of 14 cm.

In order for the record to stand, the car was not allowed to be touching the curb or either vehicle.
