Cam Girls

Street Cents received a letter from a Cam Girl asking us to take a look at the recent press surrounding Camsites. So we slipped into the story and found out what life's like on the other side of the Webcam. Three "Cam Girls" tell us what it's like when you turn your world loose on the Internet. Turns out there's some good, some bad - and some slightly creepy parts to running a Camsite.

Dear Street Cents, Lately there's been a lot of articles and talk about Cam Girls and their websites. If you're unfamiliar with what a Cam Girl is, there are tons of websites out there (CamRecord.com, CamTracks.com, CamSpot.net) where these girls are featured. Cam Girls are basically a girl who runs a website centered around the their weblog (an online journal) and of course their webcam. Most websites have a link to their wishlist or paypal account where people can send selected gifts or money if they like what they see.

My online friend Cassie in Ontario was interviewed recently by The Globe and Mail about her website, kinkay.net The article. It seems to me that they made Cam Girls out to be money hungry teenagers with no sense of what's sexually explicit and where to draw the line when showing skin is involved.

I personally run and maintain my own website, jenny-girl.net, centering around just that: my webcam and weblog. I do take images that are considered sexual to draw attention to myself and my site, although I do NOT get naked. There's been quite a bit of contraversy about whether teens are getting naked solely for site hits and gifts, but for me and tons of others, this is definitely NOT the case.

Since there are a lot of Cam Girls springing up in a Canada and tons of people who are giving us a bad reputation, I thought you guys could consider clearing it up.

Thanks,
Jenny
