Harper focuses on Liberal scandal

Last Updated: Saturday, January 21, 2006 | 6:56 PM ET

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper kept up a final push for votes in Toronto on Saturday, rallying his supporters and blasting the Liberals and their record in office.

"We are entering the final weekend," Harper told a crowd in the city's Don Mills area.

Canadians vote on Monday Jan. 23.

"Over the weekend Canadians will ask themselves what is at stake in Monday's vote," Harper said.

Attacks Martin

He went on to attack Liberal Leader Paul Martin, saying "he has not provided Canadians with a single reason why his government should be re-elected."

The Conservatives are hoping for a big breakthrough in Ontario, Canada's most populous province.

And Harper has been spending a lot of time in the seat-rich Greater Toronto Area, hoping to make gains in what has been a Liberal stronghold for a decade.

ELECTION NIGHT LIVE RESULTS
Check back Jan. 23 starting at 10 p.m. EST for comprehensive national and riding-by-riding results. Why 10 p.m.?

Harper reiterated that if elected, his first piece of legislative action will deal with federal accountability. "I will enforce the rules," he said.

Harper will make other stops in Ontario on Saturday, with events in Strathroy, Guelph and Sarnia.
