Stronach brought 15 other female candidates to the rally in her riding north of Toronto to drive home her point that more women feel at home in the Liberal party.
"We have a leader who really respects what women contribute," Stronach said.
Last spring, Stronach bolted from Stephen Harper's Conservative party, a party she had a role in creating and tried to lead.
"Seeing Mr. Harper up close and outside the public eye, I realized he failed to understand the interests and the values of my community," she said.
Liberal Leader Paul Martin ran with the same theme, delivering what has become his boilerplate speech on the differences between Harper's values and his own.
"Mr. Harper has called our country second-rate," he said.
Martin was in town to help Stronach retain the seat she won just 18 months ago as a Harper Conservative, by lauding her role in the Liberals' multibillion-dollar promise yesterday to help more students attend university, and get into training programs.
"That package was put together by Belinda Stronach and we should give her a great round of applause," he said.
On Friday, Martin makes four more campaign stops to support Liberal candidates in ridings held by his party since 1993.
