The New Democrats now have a candidate in the federal riding of Labrador, while the Conservative party is still recruiting a challenger to Liberal incumbent Todd Russell.
Jake Larkin, a vice-principal at the community school in Nain in northern Labrador, will represent the NDP in the Jan. 23 election.

The NDP had been planning a vote for the nomination, but Simeon Tshakapesh, a former Innu chief, withdrew from the race Monday afternoon.
Larkin's nomination makes the campaign in Labrador – at least for now – something resembling an actual race. Other parties have been late in finding candidates to challenge Russell, who was elected to the House of Commons in a May byelection.
Labrador has voted Liberal in every election except one since Confederation with Canada in 1949.
The Green party had lined up a candidate in the riding, but Jane McGillivray withdrew to protest the party's anti-sealing stance.
