In his first campaign stop since the French and English debates, Layton said that Martin is trying to defend what is an indefensible Liberal record.
Layton accused Martin of being "a broken record who has a broken record."
Layton also promised to stop what he called the Americanization of Canada's health care system. Layton told a rally in Vancouver the NDP would do more to help companies affected by the U.S. tariff on softwood lumber.

When asked about remarks made earlier in the day by Conservative Leader Stephen Harper, Layton said the NDP would take decisive action.
"Canada should back up loans to the companies based on the funds that are currently being held by the Americans. They shouldn't just be contingent on their being returned to Canada for them to be used as loan guarantees," said Layton.
Layton also attacked Harper on the issue of same-sex marriage. However, Layton left the door open to working with a Conservative minority government. He says New Democrats will work with whatever House of Commons Canadians elect.
