Duceppe was responding to reporters' questions about the U.S. ambassador to Canada's rebuke of Martin, who suggested Tuesday that he risks damaging relations between the countries if he continues to criticize his southern neighbour.
"Paul Martin doesn't allow his actions to follow his words. He prefers to criticize and I think we should be criticizing less and acting more, particularly with respect to softwood lumber," said Duceppe.
He said while the Bloc has criticized some decisions by the Bush administration, it has never made anti-American remarks.
Duceppe added that the Liberals have made "completely unacceptable comments about the U.S."
"We want Mr. Martin to take concrete action and behave as a responsible prime minister and respond to the U.S. strategy rather than just criticizing and making comments that may make the U.S unhappy."
