Former Moncton mayor Brian Murphy will represent the Liberals in Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe. He will fight for the seat currently held by retiring MP Claudette Bradshaw.
Murphy won the nomination Sunday. Bradshaw announced in November that she would not seek re-election.
In his nomination speech Murphy said that he will continue Bradshaw's crusade against poverty and homelessness.
"A Liberal government must work towards reducing the need for soup kitchens, for homeless shelters and the food banks. We must be generous, we must find more access to accessible and affordable housing," he said.
"The condition of the working poor affects all of us. We must have compassion."
Murphy is up against Conservative candidate Charles Doucet and NDP candidate David Hackett. The Green party has yet to choose a candidate.
