Casual Looks for Guys
Drinks with the Guys
Style lessons: When wearing graphic tees go for simple graphics, not intricate ones. The tee should hit just barely below the waist and the sleeves should hit your mid-upper arm. Look at the neckline and pick something more streamlined as opposed to a thick neckband. Complement your graphic tee with jeans and a suede jacket. You'll look effortless but pulled together.
Hanging Out on a Patio
Style lesson: Don't be intimidated by white jeans. They're worth the investment this season because they're the ultimate neutral and can be paired with anything! Look for a nice thick material and straight cut. Complement your jeans with a linen plaid shirt. It looks fresh and doesn't have to be ironed!
Taking the Kids to Soccer, Summer Weekend Look
Get the look: polo shirt, Brunello Cuccenelli cargo short, New Balance shoes, Moncler jacket, Harry Rosen
Style lesson: Cargo shorts should rest several inches past your fingertips but not below your knee. Treat the side pockets as decorative, not functional. Complement your cargo with a nicely fitted polo shirt and colourful windbreaker because colour looks great on guys and red is easy to wear and flattering on everyone.
Casual Dinner Party
Style lesson: An unstructured jacket doesn't hold much shape, it follows the line of your shoulder and drapes close to the body. It's the new cardigan of the season with a little more structure. The length should fall on around the hip area. Complement your jacket with a pewter slim pant (updated khaki) because the khaki is the perfect pant to dress up or down.
Get the look: Barena jacket, Mauro Grifoni, scarf; Altea t-shirt, Authentic Original vintage style pant; George C shoes, George C
Dressy Looks for Guys
Date or Concert
Style lesson: When wearing denim on denim, make sure the two items aren't the same colour. A chambray shirt with black denim jeans is a great combination that is back in style. Make sure your shirt has a tailored fit and isn't boxy. Jeans should be slim or straight cut, never baggy. Invest in a good pair of jeans because they get worn so often. Complement your denim on denim with a snazzy sports blazer. It adds personality, and animal print is a classic that's not just for women!
For the Office
Get the look: Ralph Lauren linen suit and sweater, Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, Harry Rosen
Style lesson: Big bulky sweaters have been replaced with refined knits that are more lightweight. Go for big bold colour and a comfortable fit. Sweaters should hit the waist or just below and if it has a band it should not be tucked in. Complement your polo with a black linen suit. It's effortless and chic, casual but pulled together.
Wedding or Dressy Occasion
Get the look: suit, shirt, Canali tie, To Boot shoes, belt, Holt Renfrew
Style lesson: When wearing a slim suit, jacket sleeves should hit the end of the wrist and pant length should have a slight break, grazing the top of your foot. Get mid to lightweight fabric because you don't want to add bulk. This is supposed to be slimming, after all. Complement your slim suit with mixed patterns in the shirt and tie. Pull colours from within each piece to keep the look cohesive.
Perfect for Any Occasion
Style lesson: Wearing a patterned pant isn't for everyone, but it's worth the investment this season because it's a great way to show personality. Select a tonal print and colour that's muted, and stick to a classic trouser pant that has a flat-front with very few embellishments. Complement the pant with a paisley knit sweater. Pattern on pattern looks great here. Keep the sweater thin and fitted.
