How to Get Free Stuff Online

The word "free" gets everyone's attention. And well it should - we all need to save more of our hard-earned money. Every day there are great new services online that allow you to do so and that change our way of life.

So many things are free online: free email, free software downloads, free tools, free blogs, free horoscopes - you name it! Of course, that's how markets work - competition drives costs down. And what's more competitive than the word wide web?

So here are some of my favorite sites where you can get products and services for FREE!

1. Actual FREE stuff at

People are actually giving stuff away for free on Craigslist - furniture, pianos, firewood, christmas trees and other great things that they don't want to dispose of but don't want anymore. Plus, some people, like junior hairstylists, are giving away free hair cuts and other services, so you never know what you might get for free!

Here's how to find it:

1. Go to
2. Pick your city
3. Under the "for sale" section, click "free"

1. Check often! Some people leave things curbside or give them out on a first come, first served basis, you you've gotta be on it!

Be careful! Try to not go to strangers' houses alone. And if it sounds too good to be true - like "Free Diamonds in a shady Basement" - stay away and stick to the furniture and firewood instead.

Beware of mattresses and other things that can't be washed and may contain bed bugs, etc.

2. Free Music at

Listen to music for free online at It's like tuning into the radio but better! Here's why:

  • no commercials
  • you can choose what you want to listen to according to
               - musical genre
               - decade
               - your mood
               - tempo
  • when you search a specific artist that you like - like Jann Arden - the playlist will automatically adjust to include other similar artists and musical styles.
  • you get the artist name, song title and links to download or buy the album online for each song!

1. My favorite channel is the Blues channel, I like Classical at work, jazz for a dinner party, and rock or 80s for a party-party!

2. Musicovery is also available on Wii and PS3, so if you have one of those, you can play it out of your television's speakers at a party.

Other great free music sites include:

3. Free Long Distance Calls at

I LOVE SKYPE! You can sign up for a free account and use your computer to call anyone else with a skype account, anywhere in the world, for as long as you want FOR FREE!!!

  • a webcam allows you to video-call for free.
Although most laptops come with a built-in webcam nowadays, you can buy one to
add to an older laptop or desktop PC for as little as $20.
  • you can instant message other Skype users for free.
  • you can call cell phones or landlines for dirt cheap rates.

Here's how to start:

1. Download Skype
2. Add contacts and start talking

We video-called Jann Arden at home and got a tour of her fabulous place!

4. Win Free Stuff at

Contests are used by the majority of websites to increase traffic, which means that you can win lots of great stuff for free. I personally haven't won much... but I think that's because I'm too busy giving it away! If you're a regular visitor to this site, you know Steven and Chris run contests and give away prized daily. I'm drawing names and shipping out cool things like cameras, books, makeup and major appliances ALL THE TIME!

If you want a piece of that action you can, of course
, visit our Contests section.

A good way to keep track of a lot of the web's best contests is at If you're living in the United States, click on the U.S. flag on the homepage and you'll be taken to the U.S. version of the site.

Not to be outdone...

Steven and Chris are giving away an Electrolux InfoWave-Touch French Door Refrigerator valued at $4299, courtesy of Electrolux. (contest ends April 23rd, 2010)
