Summer Skin Issues Solved

There's no need to feel uneasy about your skin this summer, with Joy McCarthy's remedies for common skin issues.

Removing food intolerances from your diet can help reduce skin issues

Bumps on Back of Arms

Many conventional therapies address these bumps by trying to smooth out the top layer of skin with exfoliation. However, this doesn't address the root cause of the issue. In her practice, Joy has found that cutting out food allergies such as gluten and dairy from her clients’ diets can drastically improve their skin. This is because the body is able to better absorb nutrients like vitamin A and fatty acids when food intolerances are removed from one's diet. Food allergies increase inflammation, which is linked to every single skin problem from acne to eczema and dry skin patches. By lowering inflammation you will also reduce puffiness from the inside out.

Tea tree oil for dry skin in sensitive areas

Hair Removal

Shaving your underarms and bikini line can give you ingrown hairs and make your skin red and bumpy. Ingrown hairs are caused by clogged pores, too many dead skin cells and dry skin. Oftentimes they will go away on their own but if they’re becoming a nuisance Joy recommends tea tree oil. It’s a great antibacterial to help with healing infected ingrown hairs. Tea tree oil will help prevent infection and sterilize the area. You can pick up pure tea tree oil at your local health store. You may wish to dilute it for sensitive areas like the bikini line as this oil is quite strong. Also remember that it’s never okay to pick at ingrown hair with tweezers because it can cause an infection by letting in bacteria.

Citrus Sea Salt Scrub for your feet

Treat Your Feet

To get rid of cracked heels and rough feet you’ve got to give your feet a good scrub. Once you’re finished your foot scrub, cover your feet in your favourite moisturizing oil, put on a pair of socks and sleep with the socks on. Your feet will absorb the oil overnight and your feet will be summer ready in no time. Here is the recipe for Joy’s Citrus Sea Salt Scrub.

Citrus Sea Salt Scrub

5 tablespoons sea salt
1 tablespoon olive oil or coconut oil
1 lemon

  1. First mix the olive oil and sea salt together.
  2. Once the salt gets coated by the oil, the lemon won't dissolve it!
  3. Cut the lemon in half and squeeze over the salt and oil.
  4. Mix and mash. (Feel free to adjust the recipe to your liking). Then scrub away!
