After five minutes with Jana Webb, it’s easy to see why the sports world loves her. Not only does the Canadian-born athlete exude her passion for her business, but she also gets results. A lifelong athlete and skilled yoga practitioner, Jana developed ‘Joga’: an athletic based style of yoga that speaks to the athletic mind and athletic body. Incorporating a unique blend of postures and breathing techniques, Joga helps find balance in strength and flexibility and improves breath control and recovery.
After stumbling upon yoga while nursing her own injury, Jana trained in Tokyo to become an Ishta certified yoga instructor. Her training was rooted from a style of yoga that looks at individual anatomy and structure, then based on those observations, specific postures and breathing patterns are prescribed: adhering to the needs and demands of the individual.
Jana began at the National Sports Development Centre where she taught varsity basketball, volleyball and hockey teams. Since then she has worked with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL in their off-season and then into their regular season. She has also worked with the Toronto Argonauts, players from The Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Phoenix Coyotes, Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadians, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, Team Canada Rugby, and Team Canada Volleyball.
Part of her program has evolved into the creation of sport specific yoga sessions such as “Yoga for Golfers”, “Yoga for Runners”, and “Yoga for Triathletes”, concentrating on specific movements and postures that benefit these sports. Now aiming to help other health professionals achieve their goals, Jana has developed a certification program that offers yoga instructors, physiotherapists, athletic therapists and strength coaches become Joga certified.
