Chef Chris Brown

Prior to opening up his business Citizen Catering, Chris worked for four years developing a catering company at one of the city’s largest non-profit organizations, The Stop Community Center. Prior to joining The Stop, he was a partner and executive chef at Perigee, described as one of Toronto’s best fine dining restaurants by Toronto Life. Mr. Brown applied his considerable talent and energy to making a real difference in the fight to end hunger by raising funds and awareness for The Stop’s programs.

For six years Chris taught children from ages eight to 12 at Voice Intermediate School, where he developed the school’s first cooking program. Chris loves teaching and was especially excited to share his love of food and cooking. Each day he taught up to 85 children basic cooking skills to help them lose the intimidation of every day products and methods

Chris began his training at some of Toronto’s top restaurants including Splendido and Avalon before spending four years in Europe working at restaurants in Italy and France. While in Europe Chris learned the art of simplicity in cooking. Upon returning to Toronto he opened Perigee with his father and brother. Long a supporter of The Stop through The Group of Seven Chefs, Brown is an advocate of local sustainable food and equal access to it.
