Upcycling Starter Tips

If you love the "thrill of the find" you will love this. Designer Sarah Keenleyside takes us inside her home for a look at her very unique design style that's all about upcycling.

Here are Sarah's top three tips on how to get started with upcycling:

1. Look for quality construction

Quality construction is key to determining whether or not a found object is worth upcycling. A solid, quality piece will be worth refurbishing and/or reupholstering.

2. Think outside the box

Don't look at an object and think of the way it was originally intended to be used. Think of new ways to use found objects. Approach items with an open mind and use your creativity!

3. Mix and match unexpected items

Displaying several different types of objects together creates a "curated" feel. Be sure to edit your selections - too many objects can sometimes have the look of a vintage shop. Carefully select which items you want to showcase and choose the ones that are special to you or have an interesting story. Consider this a great way to introduce a conversation starter to your space.
