This edition of Ask S&C was inspired by a question from Hatel, who wrote:

Hi Steven and Chris,

I'd love some help. We want our bedroom to be an oasis where we can really unwind and relax. For religious reasons, our bed must face east, which puts the headboard up against the mezzanine railing. We'd also like to add some extra storage, a reading chair, if possible, and an office in the small den adjacent. More than anything, we'd like a functional and beautiful space and hope you can help us get there.

Thanks,
Hatel
