Car Must-Haves

Print off these handy car checklists to make sure your ride is ready to hit the road!

An illustration of a happy car.

Trunk Musts

  • Jumper cables
  • Blanket
In case of emergency, of course! Plus, how many times have you found yourself at a park wishing you had a blanket?
  • Car fluids: windshield wiper fluid, oil and coolant
  • Matches and a large candle
Candles generate a surprising amount of heat. Obviously, the larger the candle, the better, if you're stranded in the cold.
  • Flashlight and batteries
Tip: Tape batteries to the side of your flashlight to prevent them from losing power.
  • Spare tire and tools
Plus, the knowledge of how to change a tire...
  • Duct tape
To temporarily fix a broken window or windshield wiper, pick up shards of glass, etc.
  • First aid kit
  • Bottled water
Good to have on hand for humans and pets.

Car Essentials

  • Collapsible garbage can
  • Wet wipes
  • Pad of paper and pen
  • Cellphone charger (car charger and instant charger or quick-charge batteries)
  • Map and GPS unit
GPS is amazing but it doesn't always work in out-of-the-way areas, so it's a good idea to always have a good old-fashioned map on hand.
  • Umbrella
  • Shopping bags
  • Car-sickness bags
You'll thank us next time you're travelling with kids!

Winter Car Kit

  • Folding snow shovel
  • Ice scraper
  • Hat and mittens or gloves
  • Non-clumping kitty litter
Dump some behind the wheels of your car if you're stuck on ice.
  • Road salt
