The only thing you need to create a truly unique bathroom is your imagination. Start with the basics, and everything else will fall into place. Here, Sarah Keenleyside shows us her take on a traditional shaker style vanity with two completely different looks. The possibilities are endless!
Hip and Modern Bathroom

The biggest impact in this space is created by this amazing wallpaper which has an ombre effect. Think about creating your own custom wallpaper or find a unique print. It works perfectly for an accent wall in a smaller space like a washroom or powder room. Just remember that if it's not vinyl wallpaper you will need to seal it with a water-based matte sealant to protect it from moisture and staining.
These vintage sconces are actually intended to be ceiling mounted but they have been wall mounted instead. You can do that as long as the fixture does not have hanging elements. In a fun eclectic design like this think of checking out vintage lighting stores for inspiration. Consider using the fixtures in a different way than originally intended to give your space a fresh look.To balance off the vintage sconces, Sarah selected a more polished mirror that has a bit of a rock and roll edge. With sconces that are that distinct, you don't want to try and compete with them stylistically.
When adding storage to your bathroom, think outside the box. Here Sarah used a vintage green locker. It works for locker room washrooms so why not your own washroom? These lockers are really hot these days and a lot of stores are bringing them in. You can paint them a fun colour with a factory finish or automotive paint. They also provide great storage and if you are renting you can repurpose this piece in other areas of your home.
Upscale and Glamourous

To create a more polished look, Sarah went with this gorgeous gold leaf faux finish wallpaper. Next up she added a chain like pendant to add drama. This particular light also comes in a sconce option so you could use those if you do not have the height available in your space. Try not to get caught up in what you think washroom lighting should look like, but keep in mind the moisture and condensation a washroom creates.
Here a simple round mirror with a thin black frame looks tailored against the wall. A overly decorative mirror would make the space feel too fussy.
Open shelving displays all the great bath products you can find these days. These shelves have interesting details that pick up on the chrome used in the bathroom fixtures and add a bit of interest through the twig details on the brackets. Open shelving with all these gorgeous magic potions definitely makes this bathroom feel much more like a boutique hotel spa.
