Haglund's deformity (a.k.a. pump bump) is a bony protrusion found on the back of the heel. Shoe backs made of rigid materials like tough leather can rub against the enlargement, which may lead to painful blisters, swelling and bursitis.
A bunion occurs when the big toe begins to point toward the second toe. This deviation causes a painful, bony bump at the base of the big toe. The condition is often caused by wearing tight and pointy-toed shoes, which is why it is more common among women than men.
The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, from your heel to your toes. Wearing shoes without arch support can cause the tendon to stretch or become inflamed, most commonly causing heel pain.

All high heels increase your risk of ankle sprain, but stilettos are particularly perilous because all of your weight is concentrated in one small area, which can make you extra wobbly. To prevent such an injury, opt for a chunkier heel, no more than two inches tall.
Hammertoes are the result of shortened tendons. This occurs when toes are forced into a bent position for an extended period of time by very high heels or shoes that are too tight in the toe box. Hammertoes can also be indirectly caused by other conditions, such as arthritis, stroke and diabetes.
