Arthritis in Pets

Dr. Julia Hammond stopped by to talk about one of the most common ailments in pets: arthritis. If your dog or cat displays the following signs, it may be more than simply be old age, they might have a problem with their joints.

  • Stiffness
  • Weakness
  • Laziness
  • Limping
  • Growling

There are many safe drugs that a veterinarian can prescribe for pets suffering from arthritis. And, just like humans, your pets can also go through physical rehabilitation to improve their quality of life.

Passive range of motion exercises increase the quality of the joint cartilage and even stimulate new cartilage growth. Tania Costa from Canine Wellness put Otis to work and showed us some exercises you can try at home with your dog.

If your dog is older and more stiff, they may prefer a more passive massage. Take Frankie as an example: He's twelve years old and has arthritis but he's also a workng dog with Therapeutic Paws Canada. Julia's magic touch almost put him to sleep!
