Carson Arthur was in studio to answer some viewer questions about gardening/landscaping. Read on to see some of his answers to our viewer questions.
Question 1: I have plum trees that are about 6 years old and have rarely born any plums. I've given the trees hammer-in fertilizer and have tried to keep weeds away as much as possible. Is there anything else I could be doing? Thanks, Adeline
Sounds like you're doing all the right things Adeline. With Plum trees, it's all about patience. It can take anywhere from 8-10 years for this type of tree to start growing plums.
Question 2: We are re-doing some fencing in our yard. Can you show us new designs in fencing for privacy? Thank you, Cynthia
Think outside the box with fencing. Here are some cool looks you can find right now.
This is a unique, decorative option for a fence:

Question 3: How do I start landscaping my front yard? I have a modern home and would like simple landscaping, trees and large rocks without flowers. How do I achieve this look? - Tina
Front yards:
Separate the public space (near sidewalk) vs private (your land)
Make a first impression!
Highlight your house - do not over power
It's ideal to have an area to greet guests away from front door - can be very welcoming even if you don't sit there
Pull colours from front room and use outdoors by selecting flowers/plants in those colours
Take a look at what your neighbours are doing. Go get pictures of what's happening in your area. Garden centre will advise on what it is that you like.
Question 4: I have a problem with my neighbour's cats using my garden! It's very frustrating and would love some tips on how I can keep them out. Thanks, Amber.
