Brilliant Bathrooms

Domestic diva Sara Lynn Cauchon joined us to share some tips and tricks to make cleaning your bathroom a little less daunting.

SHOWER HEAD - The shower head is notorious for nasty mineral deposits and bacterial build-up. Remove your shower head monthly and soak it in straight vinegar. Use a toothpick to remove any grime that may be blocking the holes. If you can't remove your shower head, put some vinegar in a plastic baggy and secure it over your shower head with a rubber band.

SOAP SCUM - Soap scum can be a total pain in the butt to clean. Your best bet is to prevent it from forming in the first place by using body wash instead of bar soap and using a squeegee after each shower. If soap scum has already formed, use a Scrunge to remove it. A Scrunge has scouring power but won't scratch delicate surfaces like glass. For extra stubborn scum, mix 1 part water and 1 part liquid fabric softener. Let it soak and then scrub it.

DRAINS - Both your sink and tub drains can be affected by residue build-up and hair. Give your drains a monthly treatment with half a cup of baking soda and half a cup of vinegar. This will keep your drains from collecting guck and prevent any major clogs.

TOILET - Give your throne the royal treatment! Place two denture tabs in the toilet before bed and in the morning your bowl will be pristine. Also, be sure to focus on the toilet handle specifically. Use a good disinfectant to clean the part of the toilet you touch the most. Try lemon, vinegar or a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water applied with a spray bottle.

FOGGY MIRRORS - To clean your mirrors use soda and some newspaper. This will make them shine without needing harsh chemicals  A fun trick for preventing your mirrors from fogging: apply a thin layer of shampoo or shaving cream and then wipe clean. Presto...No fog!
