I love a good big box store and I'm a huge fan of simple staples BUT - it's also really nice to inject some personal style items into your home and I've found some great sites that help you do so by allowing you to "design" your own custom items.
I snagged some great photos and personal items from Steven and Chris to get samples made from all these sites. Let me know what you think in the comments section below!
This site offers beautiful home and gift items that you can personalize by selecting from tons of fabulous, colourful patterns and by adding your own name or monogram.
Create a single piece that adds a splash of color to a vignette in your home, or be bold and customize an entire desk set for your office!
I ordered this lucite trayfor Steven and Chris, with their S&C monogram, after Steven chose the pattern below it:
I had Steven choose another pattern for this paperweight, which has their full names written on it.
They've got lots more canvas and leather items, platesand more, plus dozens of beautiful patterns for you to choose from.
This colorful Etsy store specializes in personalized note cards, invitations, custom silhouette prints, calling cards and more. I thought their custom silhouette prints were a really great idea, whether they're of yourself, the kids, the whole family or your pets, like this one I had made for Steven and Chris of their dog, Maxi.
Here's the photo I sent to Elizabeth of Nella Designs and a digital file of the print she created below.
We put it in a white Ikea frame and Steven and Chris took it home! It's a cute cute for friends, especially if you can snag a photo off of Facebook and totally surprise them.
They're also really inexpensive. You can get a custom 8x10 print for $35 in a wide variety of colors. Here are some more examples and color samples.
You can also order custom invites, stickers and lots more fun and pretty personalized items.
This site's got lots of personalized items, from clothes to yoga mats to beer steins. I feel in love with their customizable clocks. The tool is really easy to use and allows you to add text, change colors and add images.
I had two clocks made, one with plain text for Chris, since he loves clean design and one for Steven, using the image of artist Damien Hirst's diamond skull, which he loves.
The Fingerprint Portraits that DNA 11 created for Steven and Chris were the most personalized items I brought to the show and they just loved them. It's a good thing they did, because I had to fingerprint them in order to get the art made.
Here's how it works:
And here's the final result. Stylish, original and totally personal to Steven and Chris.
If you want to make your own, you can select any custom color option you want, which is a feature I love.
